NEW DELHI: Congress chief Rahul Gandhi condoled the demise of senior social gathering chief Oscar Fernandes on Monday, remembering him as a information and mentor.
He described Fernandes’ dying as a “private loss”.
Fernandes (80), a former Union minister and Rajya Sabha member, died at a personal hospital in Mangaluru on Monday.
He was hospitalised in July after he suffered a head harm as a result of a fall whereas practising yoga at his dwelling. He had additionally undergone a surgical procedure to take away a clot in his mind.
“My heartfelt condolences to the household and mates of Shri Oscar Fernandes Ji. It’s a private loss for me. He was a information and mentor to many people within the Congress social gathering,” Gandhi mentioned on Twitter.

Fernandes was a sitting member of the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. He had been a five-time Lok Sabha MP and a four-time Rajya Sabha member.
He had entered politics as a member of the Udupi Municipal Council and was elected to Lok Sabha for the primary time in 1980.
Fernandes grew to become the parliamentary secretary to the prime minister in December 1984 after which the AICC common secretary in 1985. Thereafter, he grew to become the president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress in 1986 and AICC common secretary from 1996 onwards.
